Fox & Thistle Studio is an ode to flora and fauna.
Established in 2022, Fox & Thistle is a Midwest-based art studio focused on celebrating the natural world. Through detailed watercolor and ink illustrations, the studio hopes to invoke a sense of curiosity about the plants and wildlife that call this region home.
The studio is a firm believer that curiosity leads to caring--and that caring leads to action. If you know what grows in your area--if you understand the beauty and the benefits, what it hosts and what it contributes, maybe you'll want to protect it. And maybe you'll even want to take that next step and plant your own seed. To watch it grow.
Meet the Artist
Hi, I'm Dani Gorin, the artist behind Fox & Thistle Studio. What started as a hobby transitioned into a business in 2022, shortly after the birth of my first son. I have always loved art, but all the messy transformation that comes from being a first-time parent is what gave me the push to consider pursuing it more seriously.
My work is heavily focused on and informed by nature. My childhood was filled with hiking and playing in the creek, collecting feathers and bones, planting flowers with my mother and grandmother. Walking through rows of irises at my grandfather's house. These experiences fundamentally connected me to nature, to everything that grows and creeps and crawls. And this, of course, is reflected in my craft.
Today, I work out of my snug basement studio in Alton, IL, where I live with my husband and our two toddler-aged boys. Over the past few years, I've been working to align my business with my environmental interests and concerns. In practice, this has looked like is a shift towards biodegradable sleeves for my prints and cards, stationary that grows wildflowers, and a print collection focused on native plants and their many ecological benefits. Now, when I'm creating a piece, I'm considering how it looks, how it feels, and what it might do.
