Original watercolor and pen illustration of an Ohio Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis). This piece was one of 12 original paintings created for my Native Plant Collection, which highlights the beauty and ecological importance of 12 wildflowers indigenous to the United States (and IL/MO, specifically).
This hardy perennial is sometimes referred to as "Blue Jacket." It has attractive foliage and blooms from May-July, attracting a number of native bees. The blooms have the interesting habit of opening in the morning and closing in the afternoon heat.
